Journalists surveilled, government employees intimidated, White House stonewalling Congress. Yesterday's headlines are today's. There has been much speculation about the reason for the CIA release of these documents now. A close inspection indicates that the level of abuse now is as great, if not greater, than that conducted by US intelligence in the 1960s and 70s.
